A "can't miss" of your important time during your visit to Bellingham. Plan for a couple of hours here, especially as you work your way upstairs to the John M. Edson Hall of Bird's. If you're a fan of birding, then you're in for a treat! Fantastic up close experience of these magnificent creatures. And the variety of species in one location...wowzers! I highly recommend a visit here! Oh, your ticket will also get you entry into the Lightcatcher Building & Museum, just around the corner, as you also can walk to it. Now that's a bargain.
Amazing small town museum that rightfully highlights the rich history and background to Bellingham and Whatcom County.
The exhibits were great, displaying a variety of modern art, native history, and a kind of bizarre (but very interesting) “hall of birds.” For bird people, this is a great opportunity to see PNW locals up close.
Entry was a simple $10 and that ticket is also good at the Lightcatcher building (another museum) just 2 blocks away.
This was a great way to support the local community and spend a couple hours.
An absolute gem with a delightful exhibit of early local pet photos—took an out-of-town friend to visit and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Can’t wait to visit again…and the history museum is in walking distance of the art museum where they also gad a wonderful exhibit.
I highly recommend the Monday evening Whatcom History Cruise when available! I learned a lot and I appreciate having a greater understanding of the Bellingham Bay. The 2 hour cruise was just right, and $40 per person is the best price you will find for a Sunset Cruisr.
I loved learning about the History of Bellingham, and seeing all the historic objects on display. The gallery with the bird expedition was truly a sight to behold. Absolutely mind blowing how many different birds there are. The beautiful Christmas trees on display was also wonderful to see.
A great place to come and check out the various different installations that come in and you can learn and view a lot about our Bellingham and Whatcom County areas history and unique things that make our city and county so amazing. The view of the building is very iconic in downtown Bellingham.
A HUGE surprise awaits everyone on the top floor. While the entire museum is educational and entertaining (for mostly adults) on the third floor will astound the entire family. Reasonably priced. Parking is always a challenge.
Randomly stumbled upon the Whatcom Museum and was pleasantly delighted. The museum documents the history of Bellingham as a city and the development of the surrounding areas. The bird exhibit was a nice surprise, hundreds of birds on display. The building itself is impressive. I’d recommend this museum for anyone looking for something new to do :) I’ll be returning in the future for future exhibits.
